From what I know, it's Philadelphia that has the "skinniest" team at 216,76lbs/player and Washington that has the "fattest" team at 235,73lbs/players.

Team average between 223 and 227 lbs/players, but some are a little "lighter", for example Portland (217,6), Milwaukee (218), Dallas, Orlando and Memphis (all 3 at 219, 67)... and some have more fat, like the Jazz (231), the Heat (229) and the Lakers (227,87).

Going to the NBA?

I love basketball. I read it, i play it for hours every day, i do programs to help get better. Im only 5'6 and 13 and im only gonna be like 5'11. I think about going pro every day of my life. Im going into 8th grade and i need some advice as to how to become a better player and i need some people just to give their thoughts on what they think of this. It scares me to think of doing a job not related to basketball, and when i read about how you have to be good from an early age (which wasnt the case for me)i get depressed and think oh well, maybe i can be a coach. My greatest fear is not making it to the nba, i put girls aside, and school aside, and all i do is basketball. I wonder, will it be enough?

Not to shatter a dream, but very, very few make it to the NBA as players. If you have the skills and talent and work at it, perhaps you could be one of the few.

However, I sould suggest that you also take your education very seriously. If the paying thing doesn't work out, perhaps your education could get you a job in the NBA or with a team in come capacity . . . whether it be scout, trainer, broadcasting, facilities, coaching, etc.

even the best nba players had a life aside from basketball. they had to go to school, they had a girlfriend. thinking and reading about basketball won't exactly make you better. you've got to practice and practice and practice. you've got believe you can do it. and take it one step at a time. play through high school and then start thinking aboutcollegeball, before you start thinking about the nba. play against guys you know are better then you. play against adults for that matter. if you play against adults or with adults then playing with guys your own age will seem easy. i'd love to play in the nba too someday, it take a ton of practice and disipline.

remember that less than 1% of the basketball players make it to the pro game, even less makes it to the NBA. you better have a back-up plan along the way (education) and not take that for granted.
If put your eggs all in one basket and that basket develops a hole, all of your opportunities are gone. Even if you become better, make it to college, and are one of the 3% ofcollegeplayers that make it in the NBA, what is it to say that you will not have a career ending injury or be in a car wreck or another accident that would shorten or end your career. It's good to have ambition, but you better have a Plan B to fall back on if it doesn't work out.

One thing to consider about being "good from an early age" is the story of Michael Jordan. He didn't get good until High School and was actually cut from the team.
I wouldnt put school ever aside, you need it to get into the NBA, to get noticed, you would have to go to a basketball school which take smart people. Also, the thing to do is practice
Hate to burst your bubble (I had the same dream) but how many 5' 11" players are in the NBA? Get a good education, investigate what types of careers there are in the front office or as a trainer and focus on that. They all make better than average money and you can be associated with the game you love.
Yeah stay away from girls..but not "too" away if you know what im saying. You gotta get some education man. If you dont make it to the NBA you gotta have a back up career to train for. I take school very seriously. I played sports my whole life. Not many ppl make the NBA. You gotta be good and be fit. Do your best and you'll see.

Let's examine this:

The Suns consist of 3 all-stars. The Mavs consists of 2 all-stars and one former all-star. The Lakers consist of....Kobe.

Either:

(A) : Give it to the team with the best record and the best player. (Dirk)

(B) : Give it to the team with the individual player, and the person most valuable to the team. Kobe's team is above .500 with injuries to 3/5 of the starters through a long period of the season with the only constant being Kobe.

I fail to see how Nash can win. He makes his teammates better, but honestly, what good point guard doesn't? He was clutch for one game, but what about the other two losses to Dallas? Not that Nash isn't a good player, but the job of a point guard is to set people up with the ball; he fulfills that position nicely. But the job of a shooting guard is to dominantly score, which Kobe does nicely, while distributing. The job of a power forward is to score and rebound, which Dirk does efficiently.

So each performs their duties at their own respective positions, but this whole "making your teammates better" crap is heavily biased towards the point guard position. Eliminate that "factor," and there's two candidates for the position.

1: make your players better.

2:always consistent.

3:makes game winning shots.

4:good leader.

5:does not hug the ball, always finds the right man to make the shot.

Steve Nash is very, very, very deserving of MVP award. Didn't you see him play against the Mavs!!!! He completely showed up Dirk Nowitzki.
I'd have to go with Nash. Great player. Great passer. High shooting % in all three areas: 2 pt, 3 pt %26amp; FT. Doesn't waste shots which gives other team the ball. Clutch player. People say he wouldn't be MVP on another team that loses. 95 % of teams would have winning record if he was on it. Phoenix stinks when Nash is out. He makes his team much better-more so than all others.

I'd have to say Orlando. They aren't my favorite, but out of the two, they are the more rounded team. McGrady hasn't proved he can lead a team. Forget the 24 games or whatever. The real deal is in Orlando, and his name is Dwight Howard.
To be honest, it is the houston rockets. But they wont go far enought mainly becuase yao isnt there. Hes part of there perfect motion playing. If yao wasnt injured, and if all rocket members were healthy, then i dont really see any team stopping them. The rockets are a very underistimated team. Orlando on the other side, is a great team. But they woudnt last long, mainly becuase they will face either boston or detroit.

Hey guys, here's an interesting NBA trivia. Do you know that after Michael Jordan and Chicago's Bulls won their last title in 1998, every finals has featured either Tim Duncan or Shaquille O' Neil. Duncan and O'Neil can play against each other in the Finals because both are playing for Western Conference teams.

How about this season? Do you think it's time to see a new NBA Finals without either Duncan or Shaq?

You'll probably see Shaq because the suns are pretty good. It will be the suns and the celtics or Pistons. Its kind of like the Spurs are the Patriots of the NBA except no cheating scandals.
I'm a Suns fan (former phoenician) and have now been on the Celtics bandwagon (currently living in boston). I would love to see these guys go at it! But that would mean another finals game with Shaq.
Wow, I never noticed that. Yeah, it could be this year, but you can never count out the sours and the suns are starting to get it rolling. I think the celts or wizards will be in the championship though.

Great thought. The reason for them 2 being featured in every Finals (since Jordan) is because they're the 2 best players of this decade. Both of these guys got multiple titles %26amp; multiple MVPs to match them!
Don't count either one of those players out yet. The Suns are starting to click and are only 1/2 game out of the best record in the Western Conference. The Spurs are, well, the Spurs. They seem to know how to turn it on come playoff time. So, it isn't unlikely that you may get one of them back in the Finals again.

Why is it that Shaq or Ben Wallace or nearly all of the NBA's big men cannot shoot threes. Also, why is it more difficult usually for Centers and tall guys to shoot free throws?

because shooting takes teqnique that they never learned cause they were always right under the basket. its a lot different shooting a close shot then on 10-15 feet away.

Some big guys restrict their development based on their position. Some guards can't rebound either.

Check out Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Garnett, both seven-footers.
Some big men (like Yao Ming) actually are good at free throws.

But centers usually are bad at 3 pointers, because they're not supposed to shoot from there. If they did,the coach would throw the riot act at them. Their job is to score from up close, not stay out at the 3 pt line. If they miss a 3 pointer, the other team has an easy fastbreak going.

So we don't expect centers to hit threes, same as how we don't expect pitchers to be good hitters in baseball. They're not paid to do things which their teammates are paid to do.

There are exceptions, like Nowitzki or Bargnani. But generally, a seven footer shouldn't be lofting shots from 25 feet out. He's robbing himself of a chance to go for offensive boards, to say the least.

Why doesnt the NBA make a rule that players on a team can start if the player in each position is the leading scorer in his position on that team?

Example- Billy Joe is the star of the Wizards. He's a Point Guard. He averages 25 ppg. But the Coach brings him off the bench. Mike is the starting point guard. He averages 20ppg. Shouldn't the NBA make that illegal because it gives teams unfair advantages in the game?

I would choose the New Jersey Nets so I could play with one of the 2 best guards in the league (Vince Carter and Jason Kidd). Besides I get to play with my favorite player (Vince Carter) too. If only the "Three" (VC, JKidd, and RJ) could get consistent they could be the Eastern Champs, but not right now based on how they're playing right now.

I would have to go with the Denver Nuggets due to the fact that they have just recieved one of the most prolific point gaurds in the leauge. They also have good down-low players like Marcus Camby and J.R. Smith. And you can not forget one of the rising stars in the NBA Carmelo Anthony. It would be nice to play in Denver to because of how high it is and the advantage we will have at home games because the away team will not be used to having so little oxygen. Coach Carl is also an amazing coach and can bring a team deep into playoffs.
I would also go to a raising team like phoenix or cleveland because you dont wanna be in a team thta is good that has its players established.Another could be the bulls. But i would like to play to for Heat because they have young excitng players to watch like wade,wright or quinn.Im a heat fan though

oh definetely FIBA rules without a doubt, and maybe if the NBA learned the style of eurpean basketball, they might win a game or two in the olympics. you didnt see those teams having dunk highlights...but what did you see. three ball after three ball, and sweet easy passes for baskets. thats how you win. a dunk is nice, a three sixty is amazing...but u are not going to get more than 2 points for a dunk, its just like a layup.

The problem with NBA rules is the restricted zone. Defenders get called for defensive fouls even though it's the offense who charged. Sure, the restricted bring more dunks, but who cares? I want to see real basketball skills because any tall guys can dunk! And in FIBA and the Olympics, that's why USA lost. Players kept on being called for offensive fouls inside their supposed restricted area that doesn't exist internationally. I don't mind the NBA moving the 3 point line back 2 feet, because that means the players must be more accurate. But that restricted zone is destroying the art of real basketball. Anything that restricts a defender from doing his job should be taken out. That's why people rather watch NCAAB! David Stern need to correct this.

If Wilt Chamberlain was playing in the modern NBA (mid 90s to present) how well do you think he'd be doing? Stats, championships, comparisons to current players, etc. I doubt he'd be averaging 25 rebounds per game since he's no longer gigantically taller than the rest, but my guess is that he'd be around the performance of David Robinson in his prime...?

Wilt had the stamina to average 46 min/game over his entire career. He averaged OVER 48 minutes a game in 1962, only sitting out EIGHT MINUTES of the ENTIRE SEASON (he was ejected after receiving two technical fouls)... but because of overtime minutes played, he averaged 48.5 min/game that year.

No one in the NBA today (or in the 90s) could keep up with him physically.

Olajuwon, Shaq, guys like that literally only had one year in which they averaged even 40 min per game... it would be a joke watching them trying to keep up with Wilt.

Wilt had a vertical of about 60 inches... there are several famous photos of him incollege(he was a track and field star for the University of Kansas in addition to his basketball achievements, and he set a number of NCAA track and field records), and these photos typically show him 55 to 60 inches off the ground, just from a standing jump. No one who's come along since has been able to leap like that...at least, no centers have been able to do that.

Typically, the only people to defeat him in track and field events were guys who went on to the Olympics.

Chamberlain's ball handling skills were such that he was good enough to play for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Wilt was also the only center ever to LEAD THE NBA IN ASSISTS. No other non-guard has ever done that. He had the only 20-20-20 triple double in history. He's been retired for 35 years and still has more 60 point games than everyone else in the history of the NBA combined.

It would be hilarious watching guys like Zdrunis Ilgauskas and Eddy Curry try to keep up with him... most centers would foul out by half time.

Wilt used to work out with the Terminator when Arnold first came to the US... Wilt got his bench press up to over 500 lbs... even when he was 59 years old, he could still bench 465, which is more than Shaq could do now...

The combination of his stamina, enormous physical strength, leaping ability, timing and knowledge of the game would make him by far the best center in the NBA today.

And he would easily lead the league in rebounding, as well as blocked shots.

btw, at 7'1, Wilt didn't play against a lot of guys that were a foot shorter than him... the NBA didn't have players under 6 feet in the 1960s, and only Calvin Murphy (at 5'8 or 5'9) made a name for himself in the 70s... of course, Murphy is a hall of famer, not a side show like Spud Webb, Nate Robinson and Muggsy Bogues.

It's TODAY'S 7 footers that play in a league with guys a foot shorter... ask Yao Ming, who's had his shot blocked by 5'9 Nate Robinson... trust me, Robinson wouldn't get anywhere NEAR Wilt's shots.

He would still be amazing probably he could still definitely lead the league in points, rebounds, FG %, and blocks. 30points per game 16 rebounds per game 65% or better and probably close to four blocks a game. Easily the best center in the league. If he has some good guards around him the would win at least 3 championships.

Robinson was a soft player, but although it is true that was and is a gentleman outside of the court and is concerned about the community, and ok... he is an example for everyone.

But Wilt Chamberlain was and will be the best player in the history of the league, was a dominant force in all sectors of the court.

Remember that led the league in points, rebounds and, more surprisingly, also in assists.

So if it is true that a game was very different from today, but if we talk about statistics, I think it would be averaging ...
